Insyde® Software Hardens Windows® 10 Devices with Secured-core PC Enabled Firmware

InsydeH2O® UEFI BIOS and Windows 10 Prevents Advanced Security Threats Including New “Thunderspy” Vulnerability

TAIPEI, TAIWAN, June 2, 2020 – Insyde® Software, a leading provider of UEFI BIOS and systems management software, today announced that BIOS security features for enabling Microsoft Secured-core PC requirements have been implemented on its flagship product, InsydeH2O® UEFI BIOS, for use on the latest Intel “Comet Lake” and AMD “Renoir” platforms. This enables PC makers to deliver the most secure, out-of-the-box Windows 10 PCs to its customers.

Announced in late 2019, Secured-core PC is an initiative announced by Microsoft, PC makers and silicon vendors to protect the integrity of the PC boot process and data stored in memory. Secured-core PCs combine identity, operating system, hardware and firmware protection to establish a “defense-in-depth” security strategy that helps prevent a single point of security failure. These secure PCs are designed specifically for mission critical users in data-sensitive industries including financial services, government and healthcare, and other industries where intellectual property or personally identifiable information are high value targets for attackers.

The recently uncovered “Thunderspy” vulnerability underscores the importance of this initiative. This new vulnerability allows a bad actor with physical access to use a single hardware vulnerability to copy memory from a locked and encrypted PC. With its multi-faceted security structure, Secured-core PCs are protected from a vulnerability such as Thunderspy.

“By working closely with industry partners in the Secured-core PC initiative, we are well equipped to help our customers pass the numerous design and product feature challenges involved in Windows Secured-core PC validation” said Aven Chuang, President of Insyde Software. “Our customers can rely on our deep security experience, enabling expertise, and secure, validated solutions to successfully deliver today’s most securely hardened  PCs to market,” added Chuang.
