Insyde® Software Releases Utility to Securely Erase Local Storage Media in Computing Devices

Disk Wipe Tool Meets NIST SP 800-88 Media Sanitation Standards

TAIPEI, TAIWAN – MAY 27 2021 – Insyde® Software, a leading provider of UEFI BIOS and systems management software, today announced the launch of H2ODWT™, a new BIOS-based utility providing a simple and cost-effective method for securely erasing local storage media on a computing device.

H2ODWT functions as a UEFI shell tool that can be launched by a BIOS hotkey or integrated into InsydeH2O’s System Configuration Utility. Supporting a wide range of storage devices, the tool can securely sanitize SATA HDDs, SSDs, eMMC/UFS, and NVMe PCIe SSDs. H2ODWT offers several sanitation methods following global stringent standards for erasing sensitive data, including the NIST SP 800-88 Guidelines for Media Sanitation, which are widely followed by the U.S. government and private companies for effectively sanitizing hard drives and other electronic media. Because it is BIOS-based, the removal of storage devices and use of separate utilities are no longer necessary to securely remove sensitive data.

“H2ODWT provides functionality that has traditionally been cumbersome to manage and costly,” said Aven Chuang, President of Insyde Software. “This utility will provide valuable ways to protect and remove sensitive data for end-users, enterprise IT staff, and growing industries such as electronics recycling,” added Chuang.
