Insyde® Software Supports Intel®-Based Tablets with Added-Value Android™ Solutions and Engineering Services
Insyde’s Humanos® Operating System Provides New Features that
Optimize Intel® Architecture Tablet Computers
INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, SAN FRANCISCO, September 13, 2011- Insyde Software, a leading provider of Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) firmware, today announced that its Humanos Android-based operating system is available for the next generation of Intel’s 32nm System-on-Chip (SoC) tablet platforms, codenamed “Medfield”.
To address the anticipated market demand by OEMs and ODMs for Android on “Medfield” and other future platforms, Insyde also announced plans to substantially increase its Android engineering staff.
Humanos is a value-added implementation of Android developed and optimized by Insyde for specific netbook and tablet platforms. A new feature in this version of Humanos is the ability to quickly switch between Android and another operating system such as Microsoft Windows. Other key features targeted at tablet users include an intuitive input method that supports over 40 different languages, a full featured browser, file management tools, easy access to applications markets and more.
“Tablet makers want a choice in operating system and some want to put more than one OS on the same device, said Steve Chen, VP of Android Development, SDG, at Insyde Software. “Our new “OS switching” technology combined with our unique experience of putting over 2.5 million x86 netbooks into production with Humanos makes Insyde an ideal choice as an Android systems integration partner for many,” added Chen.
“With vast Android support and experience from companies such as Insyde Software, customers will be able to design a range of innovative and differentiated Medfield-based tablets,” said Sam Gao, Director, Systems and Applications Engineering, Intel Netbook & Tablet Group.
