Insyde Launches UEFI Firmware for ATI Chipset Technology

InsydeH2O™ Framework Provides OEM/ODM Customers With a Common Firmware Solution for ATI Desktop and Mobile Chipset Technology

INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, SAN FRANCISCO, March 7, 2006 - Insyde Software, a leading provider of UEFI-based firmware, BIOS and engineering services, today announced their support of ATI’s Radeon Xpress 200 chipsets with InsydeH2O; Insyde’s BIOS Replacement technology built on the Intel® Platform Innovation Framework for EFI.

This announcement represents the industry’s first UEFI-enabled Framework solution to support ATI chipsets for Intel-based platforms. By virtue of its modular architecture and driver-based model, InsydeH2O can seamlessly support both desktop and mobile ATI-based platforms using much of the same core code, silicon interfaces and drivers. As an example, the ATI chipset support was implemented exclusively in the PEI and DXE components of InsydeH2O.

“By leveraging ATI’s CIM (Common Interface Modules) code modules with InsydeH2O, our mutual customers can significantly reduce the time and effort in adopting UEFI on ATI Radeon Xpress 200-based platforms,?said Phil Eisler, VP and GM for ATI's Mobile and Chipset Business Unit. “Insyde’s pure Framework implementation represents a forward-thinking firmware solution that should help facilitate PC product innovation."

At the Intel Developer’s Forum being held this week in San Francisco, CA, Insyde (Booth #626) will demonstrate InsydeH2O running on ATI’s Radeon Xpress 200 platform reference design. In addition Insyde will be demonstrating InsydeH2O and related technologies running on Server, Desktop, Notebook and Embedded computer systems.

“Support for ATI with InsydeH2O means OEM and ODM customers have more choices for firmware and silicon components," said Aven Chuang, VP of Engineering at Insyde Software. “In addition to world-class graphics solutions, ATI’s Radeon Xpress 200 chipsets offer outstanding performance, integrated graphics, connectivity and functionality as enabled by InsydeH2O."

InsydeH2O offers a number of key technical benefits over a traditional BIOS solution including:

  • An architecture that allows multiple parties in multiple locations to collaborate on critical firmware components leading to improved time-to-market.
  • Accessibility to fully functional reference hardware, which facilitates an improved debug environment.
  • A common firmware development environment that leverages open source components.
