Insyde Software Readies InsydeH2O for UEFI 2.0

EFI Specification Evolves to Version 2.0 With Widespread Industry Support

TAIPEI, TAIWAN, Feb. 21, 2006 - Insyde Software, a leading provider of BIOS, EFI-based firmware and engineering services, today announced that its flagship product InsydeH2O?will support the recently ratified UEFI 2.0 Specification. Insyde Software is one of nine founding members of the Unified EFI Forum that was established to define, promote and manage the specification for the interface between operating systems and platform firmware.

InsydeH2O which currently leverages the EFI 1.10 specification for booting EFI-aware operating systems and running pre-boot applications is a complete BIOS-replacement implementation of the Platform Innovation Framework for EFI and is shipping now on servers, desktops, notebooks and embedded computers.

The UEFI 2.0 specification is aimed at eliminating system conflicts, improving manageability and offering a robust environment for running pre-boot applications. In the second quarter of this year, Insyde will introduce a version of InsydeH2O that complies with UEFI 2.0 and offers system makers additional opportunity for product differentiation in the areas of system recovery, ROM sizing, secure booting, graphical user-interface and Internet access and others.

“The UEFI specification brings a well documented and standard approach to interfacing with firmware,?said Chuck Apodaca, General Manager at Insyde Software in Hillsboro, OR. “By implementing UEFI in our InsydeH2O product as opposed to a legacy BIOS solution, we get to take full advantage of our current EFI support as well as the driver model architecture of the Framework which employs a more modular re-useable component approach to the firmware."
