Insyde® Software Contributes Open-Source Debugger Tool for AMD OpenSIL-based Platforms
Insyde Software and AMD to Co-Present at the OCP Global Summit

2024 OCP GLOBAL SUMMIT, SAN JOSE, CA – OCTOBER 14, 2024 – Insyde® Software, a leading provider of UEFI BIOS and OpenBMC management firmware, announced today that it will contribute its open-source UEFI Software Debug Engine (OpenDBG), a source-level debugging tool, facilitating full debug on platforms using AMD open-source Silicon Initialization Library (AMD OpenSIL).
The development benefits OpenDBG will help foster in the AMD OpenSIL ecosystem will be discussed in a presentation titled “Bringing AMD OpenSIL-based Platforms to Life Using Insyde’s Open UEFI Software Debug Engine,” and will be presented by Insyde Software CTO Tim Lewis and AMD Principal Firmware Engineers Paul Grimes and Martin Roth later this week during the 2024 OCP Global Summit on October 17th at the San Jose Convention Center.
Designed to address scalability and improve platform design flexibility, AMD OpenSIL represents AMD’s open-source implementation for enabling system firmware on AMD platforms. Through its host-firmware agnostic design and lightweight, versatile and scalable interface, AMD OpenSIL allows platform integrators to more easily access and control the capabilities of AMD silicon through its exposed APIs.
As the first and only current open-source debugger to fully support AMD OpenSIL in UEFI, OpenDBG will enable developers and system designers to track what’s going on at the lowest level regardless of their UEFI platform firmware choice. It provides debugging for AMD OpenSIL APIs under EDK2 or other 3rd-party firmware, and leverages Insyde-engineered, EDK2-compatible UEFI drivers and related instructions to facilitate the debugging of AMD OpenSIL-based platforms under both Windows and Linux.
“Today’s release of OpenDBG, along with our early support for AMD OpenSIL, underscores our commitment to AMD and the goals they have set to improve upon the challenges for designing more scalable and secure systems across market segments,” said Tim Lewis, CTO at Insyde Software. “We are confident the release of OpenDBG, along with our flexible firmware and world-class engineering will meet our mutual customer’s security, functionality and scalability demands,” added Lewis.
